Multi-disciplinary care of professional voice users is a consensus. Singers are special patients and clinical experience, particularly with mistakes is a hard path that can be avoided by sharing information that newcomers in the field should know. When vocal rehabilitation is needed, a paradigm shift can be necessary by using an intensive short-term voice therapy. Regular voice therapy is the traditional approach and has produced positive evidence on dysphonia treatment. The Intensive Short-Term Voice Therapy - IVT is based on the knowledge from many disciplines, such as neurobiology, exercise physiology, motor learning, and psychotherapy and it has been recently proposed as an alternative for specific situations. The positive aspect of a regular regimen of therapy is that the progressive learning seems to be an ideal situation for long-term behavioral changes and to warrantee more stable results. On the other hand, an intensive program seems to offer better short-term changes, particularly if a specific goal is set such as for professional voice users.
