Analisi di alcune qualità timbriche del canto:
1) Caratteristiche fonatorie e risonanziali di vari tipi di Belting
Abstract
In this investigation we analysed characteristics of different types of belting, a style of singing typically used in performances of contemporary popular music. Examples of these types of belting as well as examples of classical singing, produced by professional singer and teacher of singing Lisa Popeil, Los Angeles, were recorded. A listening test with experts indicated that the recorded examples were representative for the intended type of belting. Analyses showed that they differed with respect to subglottal pressure, to type of phonation and to formant frequencies. All types of belting were quite different from the classical style of singing.
2) Cos’è il twang?
Abstract
The term “twang” is apparently frequently used, but nevertheless it is far from clear what it exactly mean. In this investigation we analysed a set of examples where a professional singer and teacher of singing contrasted what she regarded as twang with a more neutral type of sinning when performing a short song phrase. A listening test was run with experts who rated the degree of twang. The most typical examples were then analysed with respect to subglottal pressure, type of phonation and formant frequencies. Results showed that the typical twang examples were sung with higher subglottal pressures, more glottal adduction and a characteristic combination of formant frequencies. Multiple regression analysis revealed that the formant frequencies seemed particularly important for conveying the impression of a typical twang.
